NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There's a warning about suspicious packages showing up in mailboxes.

The Department of Agriculture says people in at least eight states, including New York and New Jersey, have received unsolicited seeds sent from an address in China.

Officials say the package labels describe the contents as jewelry.

The seeds are believed to be an invasive species that can harm plants and livestock.

People are being told not to open the packages and to not plant the seeds.
