Security Heightened At Transit Hubs Ahead Of Super Bowl

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Despite no specific threats against the Super Bowl, security is being beefed up at transit hubs in New York and New Jersey.

Because this year's Super Bowl has the distinction of relying on mass transit to take up to 30,000 fans to the game, the TSA is contributing personnel with explosives expertise as well behavior detection officers to law enforcement.

NJ TRANSIT's Nancy Snyder said the agency has also been gearing up for Sunday's big game.

"We are confident, we have professional men and women who know the business of transporting people and infrastructure needs and to address situations as they come up," she told WCBS 880's Paul Murnane.

Col. Rick Fuentes, head of the New Jersey State Police, said local officials are counting on the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security as well to keep an eye on events.

"There is a concern with mass transit and we've prepared ourselves for it,'' he said.

Trains, buses and cars taking fans from New York and parts of New Jersey to MetLife Stadium and back again "are going to be scanned, they're going to be checked, they're going to be swept,'' he said.

Amtrak is also making special pre- and post-game stops in Secaucus, where you'll be able to transfer to MetLife-bound NJ TRANSIT trains.
