Second Suspect Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of Paterson High School Student

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A second person has been arrested in the murder of a Paterson high school student.

Prosecutors announced Saturday that 20-year-old Hasmeek Coles, of Paterson, was taken into custody.

Coles is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, receiving stolen property and second-degree weapons offenses, according to authorities.

Coles is being held on $2 million cash bail.

The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this month, 20-year-old Gregory Oliver was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Armoni Sexton.

Sexton, a high school basketball star, was killed and at least three other people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in April.

According to police, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue.

Authorities said the victims were standing near a liquor store when a burst of gunfire came from a vehicle that quickly fled the scene.
