Power Problems Disrupt Service On Second Avenue Subway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Power problems disrupted service on the Second Avenue subway for hours Friday.

Power to the third rail between 72nd and 86th streets first went out around 10:30 a.m.

It was restored, but then went out again just before 11 a.m., causing delays to several subway lines and suspending service on Q and W trains between 57th and 96th streets.

"I went in the subway at 86th Street and it didn't work," said Joseph, who lives on the Upper East Side. "Everybody walked in, walked down, and walked out. I don't know why they didn't put a note in front that it's not working."

Service resumed on the B, N, Q, R and W lines around 1 p.m. with extensive delays.

The cause of the power outage is under investigation.
