Search On For Suspect Who Robbed Woman At Knifepoint In East Village

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Tuesday evening were searching for a suspect who held up a woman at knifepoint on a side street in the East Village.

Around 5 a.m. Tuesday, the suspect walked up to the 35-year-old woman as she walked past a building at 405 E. 6th St., near First Avenue, police said.

Police initially said the robbery had happened in front of 405 Sixth Ave., the address of a Chipotle some distance west in Greenwich Village. This information was not correct.

The suspect displayed a knife, and demanded the woman's property, police said. The victim dropped her purse with $300 inside and an iPhone and left unharmed, police said.

Police have released a surveillance video showing a suspect holding the victim's property.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
