Search On For Suspect In Violent Robbery Of Woman On Lower East Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Thursday released surveillance video of the violent attack and robbery of a woman on the Lower East Side late last month.

At 4:18 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, the 32-year-old woman was walking near Essex and Hester streets when the suspect came up from behind. Pushed her to the ground, and violently ripped off her purse, police said.

The purse contained the woman's cellphone, debit and credit cards, and an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The suspect ran off, police said. The woman refused medical attention at the scene.

The suspect was described as a tall, dark-skinned man wearing a green snorkel jacket, police said.

Surveillance video from the scene showed the robbery in progress and a glimpse of the suspect's face as he ran off.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
