Search Continues For Suspects, SUV In Attempted Child Luring In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The search continues in Brooklyn for two suspects and an SUV that police said may have been involved in an attempted child abduction.

It happened Monday afternoon near the intersection of North Portland and Myrtle avenues in Fort Greene.

Police said a 10-year-old girl was walking down the street when she was approached by two men in a BMW X3 SUV who asked her if she wanted to get inside the car.

The girl instead ran away and the men fled, police said.

Parents are on edge following the luring attempt.

"I will be extra alert and I always tell them, too, we just had a conversation about this this morning," mother Tamesha Davis told CBS2's Andrea Grymes.

"It is very frightening as a parent. Your kids are your most prized possession," one father told Grymes.

"I'm nervous for all these children out here," said mother Monique Jeffrey who said she walks with her 5-year-old son everywhere.

Saying it's never too early to teach him to be alert, Jeffrey told Grymes, "I'm still going to let him know about what's going on and just the dangers that people will just try to grab you out of nowhere."

Last week in nearby Prospect Heights, administrators at P.S. 9 sent an alert to parents about a stranger on the street who tried to abduct two students who go to that campus.

However, they said the NYPD quickly arrested the suspect.

As for this latest case, police are not linking it to any other incidents, Grymes reported.

Police have released surveillance photos of the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, visit the Crime Stoppers website or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
