Bronx Woman Dies After Being Hit, Run Over By School Bus, Police Say

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx woman died Friday after being hit and killed by a school bus.

Police said the school bus was traveling east in the center lane of West Fordham Road around 12:30 p.m. when the 47-year-0ld driver made a right turn onto Sedgwick Avenue.

The 43-year-old victim, identified as Carmen Puello, was crossing Sedgwick Avenue in a crosswalk when she was hit and run over, police said.

"He passed the light and when he passed the light, he realized he was supposed to make a right turn," one witness said of the bus driver. "By the time he got past the yellow, he zoomed across and she was already in the intersection and he hit her."

Puello was taken to Saint Barnabus Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made.
