Man Accused Of Robbing Italian Ice Stand At Knifepoint In Sayville, Long Island

SAYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police have arrested and charged a man after he allegedly robbed an Italian ice stand in Sayville, Long Island late Friday.

Suffolk County police said Scott Tangel, 44, walked into Ralph's Italian Ices, at 153 Main St. in Sayville, and took out a knife. He demanded cash from a store employee, who complied and gave him an unspecified sum, police said.

Tangel fled the store on foot, police said.

A short time afterward, Suffolk County Fifth Squad detectives spotted Tangel at the Long Island Rail Road station and arrested him after a witness identified him, police said.

Tangel, of Sayville, was charged with robbery, police said. He was to be arraigned Saturday in Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip.
