Sayreville High Football Coach Stripped Of More Duties

SAYREVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A suspended New Jersey high school football coach has been stripped of more duties amid a massive hazing scandal.

On Tuesday night, the Sayreville Board of Education removed George Najjar as a strength and conditioning coach at Sayreville War Memorial High School.

Seven Sayreville football players have been charged after some teammates alleged they were sexually assaulted and inappropriately touched by a handful of older varsity players during hazing rituals inside the team's locker room. The Middlesex County prosecutor's office last month decided against prosecuting the suspects as adults.

In September, the school canceled the remainder of its football season after the allegations surfaced.

No coaches were charged, but Najjar and four assistant coaches were suspended with pay. The assistants were reinstated last month to their teaching duties. Three paid part-time coaches and five volunteers were fired in connection with the scandal.

According to NJ.com, Najjar earns a salary of nearly $86,000 as a tenured physical education teacher and an an additional $28,419 in stipends for serving as the football and strength coaches.
