Body Found In Wreckage From Boat That Sank In Sandy Hook Channel

SANDY HOOK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A body found Friday is believed to be that of a fisherman whose boat sank in the Sandy Hook Channel off New Jersey earlier this week.

The family of fisherman Tom Andresen hired a private salvage team to recover wreckage from the his sunken 40-foot trawler called El Jefe. The sunken boat was located on Wednesday in the Sandy Hook Channel after state police used sonar to locate it.

On Friday, the salvage team found a body inside the wreckage from the boat. The Monmouth County Medical Examiner's office must confirm the identification.

Andresen was believed to have been on board alone.

A captain of another boat reported seeing Andresen's boat sinking in the Sandy Hook Channel around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The boat was found a day later.
