Swimmer Vanishes Offshore From Sandy Hook Beach

SANDY HOOK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A swimmer vanished off Sandy Hook Beach on the Jersey Shore Wednesday evening, and rescuers have not been able to locate him.

Around 7:30 p.m., the 25-year-old man was seen in distress in the water, officials told CBS2.

There had been two groups of swimmers in the water, and all but one managed to get out, officials said.

The Monmouth County Sheriff's office, the U.S. Coast Guard and the NYPD Aviation Unit were all dispatched to the scene, officials said.

Photos from the scene showed multiple emergency vehicles and a helicopter at the beach as divers searched for the man, officials said.
