Sanctioned Race To The Top Of 4 World Trade Center Set For Thursday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Hundreds of participants plan to run to the top of 4 World Trade Center for charity.

As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, about 700 people will take part in Thursday's sanctioned charity event called the Runyon Up.

"This is completely legal, everyone has registered to participate and we also have volunteers. And if anyone's interested, we would love to have more volunteers for the event," said Lorraine Egan, the President and CEO of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. "A hundred percent of all the donations go to the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, which funds the most brilliant and creative young cancer researchers in the nation."

Egan is also a participant.

"Our organization used to do a race to the top of the Willis Tower in Chicago and I did that," said Egan.

Four World Trade is just 72 floors compared to the 113 stories of the Willis Tower.

Four WTC officially opened in November.

The run comes on the heels of two well-publicized security breaches at 1 World Trade Center, where trespassers were able to gain access to the observation deck undetected.
