Arrest Made In Connection To Shooting Death Of Rutgers Student

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect was arrested and is now facing charges in connection to a shooting that left one Rutgers University student dead and another injured.

According to authorities, emergency responders were called to an apartment above a popular university hangout at around 10 p.m. on April 10, where they found Shani Patel, 21, of Toms River with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patel's roommate, a Rutgers University graduate whose name has not been released, was also shot, officials said. The victim was taken to University Hospital for surgery and remains in stable condition, officials said.

Marcus Feliz, 25, of Newark, was taken into custody in connection to the incident and was charged Wednesday with murder, felony murder and robbery, officials said. Feliz' bail is set at $750,000.

The Essex County prosecutor's office said Feliz is not a student at Rutgers University and is not affiliated with the school.

The investigation is ongoing.
