Paramus Police: Woman Struck, Critically Injured, In Route 17 Hit-And-Run

PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A 20-year-old woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Route 17 in Paramus on Tuesday night.

Just before 8 p.m. the woman was hit on Route 17 north, near the Ridgewood Avenue exit, Paramus police said.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, it was unclear Tuesday night, why the woman was on the highway.

The fleeing vehicle was described as a black Toyota sport-utility vehicle with front fender damage and damage to the right side mirror.

The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with severe or critical injuries.

The northbound lanes of Route 17 were closed until at least midnight due to the ensuing investigation, the southbound lanes were still open.
