Intrepid Memorial Service In Honor Of Late Tuskegee Airman To Include F-16 Flyover

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A special memorial service is being held Friday in honor of a late member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen.

Four F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft will perform a flyover over the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, where a jazz concert and reception are being held in memory of Dr. Roscoe Brown, who died on July 2 at the age of 94.

One of the first African-American pilots, Brown earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for the combat missions he flew during World War II.

Following the war, Brown earned his doctorate in education, becoming a professor at New York University. He later became president of Bronx Community College for 17 years.

Brown was also awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007.

The flyover is planned for 4:30 p.m. Friday.
