Rockettes Christmas Spectacular Kicks Off For Holiday Season

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Rockettes kicked off their Christmas Spectacular this weekend -- a local tradition marking the start of the holiday season in New York City.

Some members of the Rockettes spoke with CBS2's Andrea Grymes on Sunday to talk about what to expect from this year's show, and what it means to be part of the performance.

GRYMES: What's different, what's the same, what can people expect?

CHRISTINA: Each year you come back, there's always something new. It's been going on since 1933...You'll see the "Parade of Soldiers," which has been a part of the show since 1933 -- but then every year you'll see something a little bit different.

GRYMES: You have to audition every year for this - give us a sense of the process.

NIKKI: You must be proficient in ballet, jazz and tap, and you must be between 5'7" and 5'11" to audition -- 18 or older. And it's very rigorous, it's very athletic, but it's very rewarding.

The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular runs from Nov. 11 to Jan 2.
