Hundreds Take Rockaway Polar Plunge To Raise Money For 18-Year-Old's Lung Transplant

BREEZY POINT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Water temperatures around 42 degrees didn't scare off hundreds of people from taking part in Saturday's 16th Annual Rockaway Polar Plunge.

The dash into the cold water off Breezy Point benefits the New York Lung Transplant Fund and 18-year-old Annie McMahon of Crestwood.

McMahon has been battling Cystic Fibrosis since birth and the disease is taking its toll on the teen. She has been in and out of hospital throughout the year and is currently being evaluated for a transplant.

Transplants are lifesaving, but they can also be very expensive, prompting her family and friends to help raise money for the procedure.
