Rick Fox: I'm Also A Candidate For Knicks Head Coach

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- He's probably Plan E or F, but Rick Fox says he is indeed on Phil Jackson's radar.

According to the NY Post, Fox told a radio station on Monday that he's talked to Jackson about the Knicks' head coaching vacancy several times over the last several months.

"Yeah … I've been a candidate for a while and what I'm comfortable communicating is that there's really nothing for me to do," Fox told NBC Sports Radio. "Phil has expressed his interest, and the patience for him discovering who is right for that job is left in his court."

According to an ESPN report, the Knicks are currently more interested in Fox's former teammate, Derek Fisher, and it's possible a deal could get ironed out this week. However, Fox said he remains a very interested party.

That Fox is considered a candidate shouldn't be too surprising. He was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers' three-peat championship team from 1999-2002, which were coached by Jackson. Very familiar with the triangle offense, Fox was also hailed as a smart player in Jackson's books.

"Phil Jackson obviously is with the Knicks now, and I've been speaking with him for about four months about that very situation," said Fox, who is an analyst for NBA TV. "I love supporting him and his vision for what's going to go down in New York, and we've had those discussions and so he knows I'm open to working with him and doing something as exciting as resurrecting the chances of the Knicks returning to glory."

Fox, 44, played 13 seasons in the NBA, including the first six with the Boston Celtics. For his career, Fox averaged 9.6 points and shot 45 percent from the floor, including 35 percent from 3-point range.
