Police: Man Allegedly On Drugs Attacks Woman In Car On Long Island
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to rob a Long Island woman while she was stopped in her car at a red light, police said.
The woman was on her way to work on Tuesday morning when suspect Richard Clinton approached her vehicle, which was stopped at a red light on Route 111 near Hauppague, CBS2's Meg Baker reported.
"She was blindsided on her way to work," Candice DeCarolis, a friend of the victim, said. "Anyone would have been a little shaken up after that."
According to police, Clinton opened the passenger door and searched the woman's vehicle before going over to the driver's side and pulling her out of her car.
"He pulled her out of the car by her ankles and got on top of her," DeCarolis said.
DeCarolis said her friend drives a 2013 model car, so the doors should lock automatically. She said she suspects the doors didn't lock because of the cold weather.
Clinton was caught by police 10 minutes later, several blocks away on Joshua's Path and Motor Parkway, police said. Clinton was brought to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for use of narcotics.
