Residents Swarm Peter's Fish Market For Feast Of The Seven Fishes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The strong smell of fish and lines out the door at Peter's Fish Market can only mean one thing: it's time for the Feast of the Seven Fishes.

"(Is this a fish market's favorite day of the year?) Absolutely," said Billy Taylor.

Taylor has come back to work at the market every Christmas for the last 28 years. He said people line up as early as 6 a.m. to get their fish.

"Tilapia, fresh flounder; salmon is a very big seller," Taylor said.

One woman from Ridgewood, who was waiting in line to get some shrimp, said this is the one day a year she'll wait online just for fish.

Taylor said they expect to serve a few thousand people this holiday.
