Reports: Wright To Rest Ailing Shoulder, Rejoin Mets On Friday
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- David Wright is going to take a little break.
Wright was not with the Mets in Atlanta on Monday, but is expected to rejoin them on Friday when they open a holiday weekend series against the Texas Rangers at Citi Field, according to multiple reports.
Wright, who is suffering from an ailing left shoulder, is not expected to go on the disabled list and will not receive a cortisone shot, SNY reported.
In the second year of an eight-year, $138 million contract, Wright is hitting .277 with six home runs and 41 RBI this season. He had hit in 10 straight games, going 15-for-39 with two homers and seven RBI, with an RBI in eight of his last nine games, prior to sitting out Friday night's game in Pittsburgh.
The Mets' captain and third baseman flew back to New York and had an MRI on Saturday, which revealed a bruised left rotator cuff, the NY Post reported.
Wright's replacement in the lineup, Eric Campbell, is 6-for-13 with an RBI over the last three games.
