Report: Redskins To Interview Giants D-Coordinator Perry Fewell

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NFC East-rival Washington Redskins have received permission to interview New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell for the team's vacant head-coaching position, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

The Redskins fired Mike Shanahan on Monday.

Fewell went 3-4 in 2009 as interim coach of the Buffalo Bills. He was hired after the season by New York, and his defensive unit was a huge part in the Giants getting to and winning Super Bowl XLVI.

Fewell's job with the Giants isn't expected to be in jeopardy after a 7-9 season and yet another year out of the playoffs. Team brass is scheduled to meet Thursday with head coach Tom Coughlin about his coaching staff and how to fix what co-owner John Mara called a "broken" offense.

Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, ex-Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Caldwell and Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrel Bevell are also on Washington's radar, according to Rapoport.

Fewell interviewed for coaching vacancies in Cleveland, Carolina, Denver and Tennessee in 2011.
