Report: Patriots Not Picking Up Revis' Option, Making Him A Free Agent
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots are not picking up their $20 million option on Darrelle Revis for the 2015-16 season.
As expected, the former Jet will become a free agent on Tuesday.
Despite not picking up the option, New England is still expected to try to re-sign the dynamic cornerback.
The six-time Pro Bowler signed with the Patriots last March after one season with the Buccaneers and helped them win Super Bowl XLIX over the Seahawks.
It's about the $$ for Revis, of course, but if all things are fairly equal, if you're him, wouldn't you go back to Patriots?

After the Super Bowl, Revis said that he'd love to stay with the Patriots, though it's unclear if they'll be able to afford him after reportedly re-signing free safety Devin McCourty for $47.5 million.
Revis hasn't hit free agency, but if he does, I heard he's seeking something in the ballpark of 3yrs, $48M with $40M gtd. We'll see.

General manager Mike Maccagnan is expected to be aggressive once the free-agency period begins on Tuesday, and the Jets could certainly use an upgrade in their secondary.
The Jets have to make the top offer for Revis. Woody Johnson let him go, never recovered and talked about bringing him back in December.

New York can certainly afford Revis, who starred for the Jets from 2007-12. Gang Green is believed to have over $50 million in cap space, and is interested in reuniting with the four-time All-Pro.
Revis was excellent for the Super Bowl champions in 2014. The 29-year-old recorded 47 combined tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two interceptions in the regular season.
He also shined in the postseason, adding a sack and an interception.
