Report: Pair Of Former LIRR Workers Get Probation In Disability Scam
NEW YORK (AP) -- Two more former Long Island Rail Road workers have been sentenced to probation for their role in a massive disability scam.
Newsday reports that Thomas Delalla and Brian Delgiorno received identical sentences of three years probation along with three months home confinement in Manhattan federal court on Friday.
Delalla was ordered to repay $156,742 while Delgiorno has a $160,470 obligation. The amounts apparently represent what they received in disability payments.
Prosecutors have arrested 33 doctors, consultants and former workers in what they say was a long-running scheme to falsify disability claims. Only 10 have been sentenced to prison.
Delalla and Delgiorno apologized for their actions.
The 55-year-old Delalla told the court, ``This is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life.''
