Report: NBA Could Punish J.R. Smith For Sneaker Shenanigans

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith is in hot water with the NBA -- again.

The league is looking into Smith's actions in Sunday's win over Dallas and could slap him with some form of punishment for untying Shawn Marion's shoe during a Mavericks free-throw attempt, according to the New York Post.

"A source said no player has ever been disciplined for such a bizarre transgression," the Post reported.

Smith was subbed in with 2:08 left in the first half and promptly bent over to yank on the laces of Marion, who re-tied his shoe after the Knicks' ensuing possession.

Smith touched on Sneaker-gate during a Twitter spree Monday:

The 28-year-old has been disciplined by the league in the past for no-nos ranging from ill-advised tweets to drug policy violations.
