Mets Place Outfielder Chris Young On DL With Tight Right Quad
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The hits just keep on coming.
The Mets have placed outfielder Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list with a tight right quad and have activated second baseman Daniel Murphy from the paternity leave list.
Young was scratched from the starting lineup on opening day with a right quadriceps strain, though the injury was thought to be minor at the time. He was available to pinch-hit, but didn't get an at-bat. Andrew Brown played left field in Young's absence.
The veteran made his Mets debut on Wednesday, but he didn't even last an inning. He was removed after chasing a fly ball down the left-field line. Hitting fifth in the lineup, he never got up to the plate.
"It's like a bad dream, man," he told reporters on Wednesday night. "It's the last way you want to come with a new team. I feel terrible about it. At the same time, you can't control it."
General manager Sandy Alderson signed Young to a one-year, $7.25 million deal in the offseason. The 30-year-old was impressive in spring training, batting .310 (18-for-58) with a homer, eight doubles, six RBIs and three stolen bases.
Eric Young, Jr. will play left field and lead off in the series finale against the Nationals on Thursday.
