Reports: Mets Agree To 1-Year Deal With John Mayberry Jr.
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- According to multiple reports, the Mets have agreed to a one-year deal with first baseman/outfielder John Mayberry Jr.
WFAN/CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman first reported the deal.
Mayberry Jr. will earn $1.45 million in 2015. The deal is pending a physical.
The versatile 30-year-old played first base and all three outfield positions in 2014. In 146 at-bats with the Phillies and Blue Jays he batted .212 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs, posting a .310 on-base percentage.
If/when deal is done, Mayberry gives #Mets some righty power on the bench. They want to go with veterans in those roles in '15.

Mayberry Jr., who bats right-handed, will be a fourth outfielder and will likely spell Lucas Duda against lefties on occasion and start in place of 35-year-old Michael Cuddyer when the left fielder needs a day off.
Mayberry has a career .533 slugging and .857 OPS against left-handed pitching.

New York's other backup outfielders include Matt den Dekker and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.
General manager Sandy Alderson is reportedly still discussing veteran Dillon Gee with several clubs, though a trade does not appear imminent. Also on the club's checklist is a left-handed reliever.
