Report: Knicks Lead, But Warriors Set To Make One Final Push For Kerr

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's not a done deal, not yet anyway.

While Steve Kerr's representatives reportedly work out the details of an offer that, if accepted, would make the former NBA champion, general manager and current analyst for TNT the Knicks' head coach, the Golden State Warriors are not conceding anything.

According to a Yahoo! Sports report, the group that manages the Warriors was ready to make one final push for Kerr.

Kerr is to call Game 5 of the playoff series between the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder for TNT on Tuesday night. He reportedly traveled Monday while his agent, former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, was negotiating with Knicks president Phil Jackson.

There are murky-at-best reports as to what kind of offer Jackson has made to Kerr, who has no coaching experience, but — in addition to playing for Jackson from 1993-98 and winning five championships with him — has strong knowledge of the triangle offense, which Jackson ran throughout his illustrious career on the sidelines.

The NY Post reported Kerr is seeking a five-year deal worth around $30 million, while ESPN has said the Knicks are attempting to get Kerr to accept less years.

Regardless, Kerr appears to be the only priority for the Knicks right now. He has been the only serious candidate since Jackson fired Mike Woodson and his entire staff following a 37-45 season.

The Warriors, who fired Mark Jackson last week, are apparently enamored with Kerr as well. This after coming away from a meeting with Stan Van Gundy less than convinced they could get him.

Though Kerr is very tight with Jackson, he has reportedly expressed concerns about higher-ups at Madison Square Garden, which if translated likely means interference by owner James Dolan. Other reports have surfaced suggesting Kerr, who lives in San Diego, would prefer to stay close to home.

For what it's worth, the Los Angeles Lakers are currently looking for a new head coach as well.
