1010 WINS: Grand Central Station Number 1 Subway Stop For Sex Crimes, According To Report
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Grand Central Station is the number one subway stop for sex crimes, according to a five-year study by the Daily News.
The NYPD recorded 369 misdemeanor sex crimes and eight felony sex crimes at the transit hub or on trains approaching it from July 2008 through June 2013, the Daily News reported.
The report found forcible touching is the most prevalent crime in the subway system and occurs mostly during the morning rush hour. There were 323 forcible touching incidents reported at Grand Central Station over the past five years -- more than any other station in the system.
"It's not a pretty experience," one woman told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.
"It's very creepy, especially for us females, it's very hard," another woman said. "You're trying to go to work or coming from work and you're tired and people are rubbing and feeling on you. It's very scary."
The 14th Street-Union Square station logged the second highest total with 172 misdemeanor sex crimes, according to the report.
