Reports: Giants Trade Odell Beckham Jr. To Cleveland Browns, Receive 2 Picks & Jabrill Peppers

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – The New York Giants have just sent shock waves through the NFL, reportedly agreeing to trade Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns.

According to multiple reports Tuesday night, the Giants will receive Cleveland's first-round pick in this year's draft (17th overall), a third-round pick, and safety Jabrill Peppers. The third-round pick will reportedly be the Brown's lower of two picks in that round.

Peppers, a New Jersey native, played his first two seasons in the NFL with Cleveland. The 23-year-old finished last season with 79 tackles, five tackles for loss, and an interception on defense. He also averaged over 21 yards on kick returns in 2018.

Peppers made a name for himself locally, playing for high school football powerhouses Don Bosco Prep and Paramus Catholic.

He won a state championship in every year of his high school career, two with Don Bosco in 2010 and 2011 and two more for Paramus in 2012 and 2013. The blazing safety's speed was apparent even in high school, as he also won two New Jersey state championships for track and field in 2013.

For Beckham and the Giants, it's a sudden end to a tumultuous era in New York football history.

Beckham, the 12th overall pick in 2014, started his Giants career with three straight Pro Bowl seasons. The 26-year-old averaged 1,374 receiving yards a season from 2014 to 2016.

An ankle injury would hobble Beckham at the start of the 2017 before it was revealed that his ankle was fractured and required surgery. The Pro Bowler would only see the field for four games that year.

Beckham bounced back in 2018, catching 77 passes for 1,052 yards in just 12 games.

FLASHBACK: Giants Getting Tired Of Beckham's 'Bad Judgment,' Not Ruling Out Trade

Despite his generational talent, the 26-year-old constant antics both on and off the field have been a continuing source of controversy for the Giants who have apparently decided to go in another direction.

Like free agency signings, the reported Beckham trade will become official when the NFL's new league year begins on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Eastern time.
