Report Finds Apparent Racial And Ethnic Segregation In Nassau County Schools
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A recent report has found segregation in Nassau County's public schools.
The 55 page, 5 year study examined Nassau County's public schools and found a persistent pattern of racial and ethical segregation, Newsday reported.
The study's author called for new policies to support diverse communities, according the report.
The report said that there are fewer predominately white school districts and that minority students are mainly concentrated in high poverty districts. The study went on to that the rather dramatic racial and ethnic distinctions across the school districts have implications for who moves where in Nassau County and how much they pay for their home.
The report was released during a symposium at the Teachers College at Columbia University.
