Remember Me? Veteran Scott Gomez Back On Devils' Roster

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Remember me?

Center Scott Gomez is back on the New Jersey Devils' roster.

General manager Lou Lamoriello says the 34-year-old center signed a contract Sunday night and there is a good chance he will play against the Penguins in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Gomez last played for the Devils in 2006-07, then signed a big contract with the New York Rangers as a free agent. He was traded to Montreal and also played with San Jose and Florida.

He attended the Devils training camp on a tryout basis, played well in the preseason but did not get a contract.

A native of Alaska, Gomez was drafted by the Devils in 1998, joined the team the following season and won the NHL's award as the top rookie.

The Devils placed top-line center Travis Zajac on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 28 on Monday.

Lamoriello also said forward Adam Henrique (upper body) has been skating and will make the trip. Defenseman Jon Merrill (arm) has been cleared to play.
