North Avenue and Main Street in New Rochelle is one of the intersections that could receive a red light camera.

"This intersection is very dangerous and it's very important that you put a camera here because I've seen a lot of accidents," one man said.

"I think the cameras will slow them down a little bit," another man said. "It's a good idea."

"I think it's needed, you need to slow down and you have to pay attention to red lights," another man said.

Officials said the goal is to save lives and make drivers more vigilant, but critics claim it's more about making money from the $50 fines, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.

Red light violations have been slashed by more than half in Yonkers, which has had cameras for several years, the Journal News reported.
