Ray Rice: 'I Made A Horrible Mistake In My Life'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- On Wednesday, former Ravens running back Ray Rice made an appearance at a public charity event in Baltimore.

The New Rochelle native, who was indicted for third-degree aggravated assault after video caught him striking his then-fiancee in an Atlantic City elevator, won his appeal against the NFL in late November after he was indefinitely suspended.

He was ruled immediately eligible and can sign with any team, though it's unlikely that he'll ink a deal this season.

"I made a horrible mistake in my life, but if you truly believe in second chances, they will forgive me," Rice said, according to CBS Baltimore. "I think all the fans have looked deep into who I am."

There is an ongoing investigation into the league's handling of Rice's suspension. According to AP sources, NFL employees at the league's headquarters have turned over phone and email records to former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III, who is working on a report.
