8,300 Rat Complaints So Far In New York City This Year

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's set to be a banner year for rats in 2016.

1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported that there have been 8,300 rat complaints so far this year in New York City, up 18 percent from one year ago.

If these numbers hold up, the city will set a record for rat complaints this year.

According to the New York Post, the worst borough is Brooklyn, followed by Manhattan and the Bronx.

The complaints come despite Mayor Bill de Blasio instituting a $3 million extermination program last year.

"We're investing more money than ever to combating rats in the city. In the Mayor's last budget he committed $2.9 million to enhance efforts and increase staff. This new initiative will expand to 50 staff and hit neighborhoods citywide," the Health Department said in a statement.
