For sports fans, the stadium or arena is a place of worship. It's where we congregate to root for teams and unite under a single banner. These places have come and gone over the years, but New York and New Jersey boast some of the best in the country. Here's how they stack up against each other:

1. Madison Square Garden

It's the world's most famous arena for a reason. Since the renovations, it's even nicer.

2. Citi Field

Modeled after Ebbets Field, the Mets at least have their ballpark going for them. The Jackie Robinson Rotunda is absolutely gorgeous.

3. Prudential Center

It's state of the art and the sightlines are great. The arena also pays homage to other local ice hockey teams, which is pretty neat.

4. Yankee Stadium

One word comes to mind: big. It also happens to be nice, but if you're looking for a family-friendly experience, this isn't the place.

5. MetLife Stadium

It's humongous and seats are super expensive. At least the Jets don't play in a stadium named after their co-tenants anymore.

6. Red Bull Arena

One of the newer additions, this soccer stadium is cozy and the atmosphere is excellent.

7. Barclays Center

It's state of the art, and the outside architecture is very cool. The setup for ice hockey, however, is ... different.

8. Nassau Coliseum

It's old, it's falling apart and it's going to be without a primary tenant after the upcoming hockey season. That said, it's a fun place to watch a game.
