Fire In East River Tunnel Snarls LIRR Service During Evening Commute

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fire in the East River Tunnel caused significant service changes for the Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak Tuesday evening, according to Notify NYC.

The LIRR says service has resumed with residual delays following a disruption caused by fire department activity during the evening rush hour.

MTA Police briefly restricted access into Penn Station due to crowding conditions resulting from the delays.
