Police Nab Suspect, Weapons And Ammunition While Investigating Car With Flat Tires In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Flat tires on a car in Queens led to the discovery of several guns and ammunition inside the vehicle as well as the arrest of a suspect.

The NYPD said plainclothes police officers who approached the white Subaru on 153rd Street near 109th Road Wednesday night witnessed a man toss a gun on the front seat before trying to run away.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Terrell Smith, was apprehended following a short pursuit, police said.

The officers, who are with the 103rd Precinct Anti-Crime Unit, searched the vehicle and found six guns, a large quantity of ammunition and marijuana.

Smith, of Queens, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, obstructing governmental administration and assault on a police officer.

Police said one of the officers injured his wrist while taking Smith into custody. He was taken to Manhasset Hospital, where he was treated and released.
