Queens, Brooklyn Rocked By Manhole Fires

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Manhole fires in Brooklyn and Queens caused trouble for residents earlier Sunday.

Huge flames shot out of a manhole on Conselyea Street in Williamsburg. Firefighters blocked off the street at around 8 a.m. while they got the fire under control.

In Queens, thick smoke could be seen rising from a transformer fire at 205th Street and 116th Avenue in St. Albans during the afternoon.

Con Edison said two customers in the area briefly lost power.

Officials said Sunday morning's wet weather may have been to blame for the fires.

Witnesses shared video of the fire on social media. A Queens resident named "Ralph" spoke with CBS2 and said power in the neighborhood was still on at the time of the disruption.
