Man Accused Of Throwing, Killing Dog In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man stood charged Monday night with hurling a dog to the ground and killing the animal in Forest Hills, Queens this past weekend.

Police were called just before 8 a.m. Sunday to an apartment on 113th Street near 76th Avenue in Queens, and were told that a 32-year-old man grabbed a Chihuahua and slammed the dog onto the ground, police said. The dog died as a result, police said.

Police said they later persuaded the suspect – identified as Carlos Hernandez of Jackson Heights – to surrender. He was charged with criminal mischief and torturing an animal.

A DNAInfo report said the suspect allegedly killed the dog in front of his girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter.
