Funeral Services Held For Boy Who Fell Through Icy Pond In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Funeral services were held Monday morning for a Queens boy who died after falling into an icy pond in Queens.

Mourners gathered at St. Pancras Parish in the Glendale section to remember 11-year-old Anthony Perez McClean. Family members had to help the boy's mother stand as she was overcome by grief, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.

He died Tuesday after falling into Strack Pond in Forest Park. Police sources say it happened as McClean tried to rescue a 12-year-old friend. That boy managed to climb out.

There are signs all around the pond, warning about thin ice.

"A lot of people will miss him now that he's gone, but I remember that every time something happened to me, he stood up for me," said friend Joshua Aponde.

His friend says McClean wanted to become an emergency medical technician when he grew up. A group of EMTs attended Monday's funeral.
