Police: Shooting Victim Dies After Being Found On Queens Street

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were investigating Wednesday after a man was found fatally shot in Queens.

His body was dumped in a quiet neighborhood, CBS2's Tony Aiello reported.

The incident happened in the far eastern part of the borough near the Nassau County line.

The NYPD said a 911 call came in at around 1 p.m. about an unconscious person in front of 82-53 268th St. in Floral Park. First responders quickly arrived on the scene to find a 19-year-old male who had been shot in the stomach.

Police said he was rushed to North Shore Hospital, but didn't survive.

Authorities identified the victim as 19-year-old Jay Patel, a business student at Nassau Community College.

At his family home two blocks away on 267th Street spoke with NYPD detectives, who visited the home to gather information.

Relatives of the teen were too distraught to speak to the media.

Investigators have a description of a vehicle, possibly a red Toyota Camry, that may have been used to dump the victim at the scene, which is part of a quiet neighborhood of well-kept apartment complexes and single-family homes. Residents said they were shocked to learn of what happened.

One man told Aiello his mother saw the immediate aftermath.

"She said that she heard a commotion outside, that apparently someone got shot and dumped off and that they left the body outside right over here and so I was like, 'All right, I'm coming over really quick to see if it was anyone I know,'" the man said.

"To bring the body and dump it there, it's beyond my mind," added Floral Park resident Andy Kucvic.

The NYPD is trying to figure out if the victim was shot elsewhere and then left in the neighborhood.

Overall, shootings in the precinct are down almost 7 percent versus the same time last year.
