25 Years For Man Who Stabbed Wife To Death As Children Pleaded In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday for stabbing his wife to death as their young children tried to stop him in Queens four years ago.

Oscar Novakovsky was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to manslaughter, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.

His wife, Diane Sharma, was stabbed about 150 times in South Richmond Hill, Queens on Jan. 15, 2012. She was found with a knife sticking out of her neck.

The children -- ages 3, 5 and 9 -- cried, screamed and pleaded with their father. They also tried to pull him off their mother.

The District Attorney said that the victim had an order of protection when the attack occurred.

Brown said the children will "have to bear the emotional scars" for the rest of their lives.
