Among dozens picketing outside was Flavia Cabral, who works at the McDonald's part-time at $8.75 an hour.

"It's not enough money. It's not," she said.

Cabral added she has to work two jobs just to make ends meet for her two teenage daughters.

Public advocate Letitia James said it's a prime example of what's happening in New York City.

"Too many women are living in poverty and the feminization of poverty is real in this city," James said.

The protesters are demanding $15 an hour and union representation. Cabral said it's desperately needed.

"Everything is raising up -- the fare, rent, bills. So what are we going to do?" she said.
