2 Children Hospitalized After Prospect Lefferts Gardens Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two children were hospitalized Saturday when a fire broke out in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn.

The fire started at 11:20 a.m. on the first floor of the three-story building at 572 Rogers Ave. in Brooklyn, a couple of blocks from Prospect Park, officials told CBS2.

Three people were trapped on the third floor.

"There was heavy smoke condition on the first floor going up the stairwell. I think once they opened the doors to their apartment, they were unable to get out due to the smoke condition and they remained in place until we arrived," said FDNY Lt. Chris Duryea.

The children were treated for smoke inhalation and were expected to recover, officials said.

There was no word late Saturday on what caused the fire.
