Some Residents Upset Over Proposed PSEG Long Island Power Substation In North Lindenhurst

NORTH LINDENHURST, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some residents are not happy with PSEG Long Island over a plan to build a power substation in North Lindenhurst.

The power substation would be constructed on the corner of Wellwood Avenue and Berry Street. But residents like Arnie Bergs said they are afraid of health issues and property values plummeting.

"I just got a call from a woman who lives in Rocky Point next to a substation. She said there's constant buzzing from the electricity and she said there's been several fires too, I guess with electricity sparking," Bergs told WCBS 880s' Sophia Hall.

A spokesperson for company said the new system would make power more reliable and said they would never do anything to put residents' safety at risk.
