Proposed Initiatives Aim To End Veteran Homelessness On Long Island

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- There's an effort underway on Long Island to end homelessness for military veterans.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, it's called the Housing Our Homeless Heroes Act, and sponsor Suffolk Leg. Steven Stern explained it's designed to find homes for homeless military veterans.

"A series of legislative initiatives that cumulatively will provide the kind of outreach efforts and the kind of services that our veterans and their families need," the lawmaker said.

Ultimately, Stern said the goal is "To end veterans' homelessness."

The legislator added that after protecting the ground we stand on, no veteran should be forced to sleep on it, Xirinachs reported.
