Forget The Limo! Long Island Teens Fly Helicopter To Prom

MANORVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Get to the chopper!

Two Long Island teens decided to ditch the limo and instead fly to prom in a helicopter.

Nick D'Amato, 17, was at the controls with his prom date, 18-year-old Danielle Mignogna, at his side as they made their way to the big dance Tuesday night.

"It was just the best feeling in the world that I could actually land a helicopter at my school," D'Amato said.

They landed with permission on the field at Eastport South Manor High School in Manorville, where there was a white carriage and a cheering crowd waiting for them.

"I just saw a bunch of people running up to the helicopter and they were asking to take pictures," D'Amato said. "I got out, got Danielle out, hugged her. It was just amazing.

D'Amato, who is a certified pilot, said he's thrilled that he managed to pull off the grand prom entrance.

"It did make history at my school," he said.

The teen will pursue a career flying helicopters after graduation.
