Procession Honors Long Island Firefighter Who Died Battling Woodmere House Fire

MANHASSET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A special procession was held to honor a Long Island firefighter who died battling a house fire.

Dozens of vehicles lined Community Drive in Manhasset Wednesday to honor Joseph Sanford, Jr.

Fire ladders formed an arch for Sanford's body to pass under on the way from North Shore-LIJ hospital, where he died, to the Nassau County Medical Examiner's office.

The volunteer Inwood firefighter died from injuries sustained while battling a house fire in Woodmere last Friday.

Sanford was 43.
